Possible Public Safety Referendum – Fire Department

The Fire Department is requesting funding through the possible referendum to address operational challenges caused by increasing call volumes and staffing levels that fall short of national standards. These requests are based on steady growth in EMS incidents, the need to reduce reliance on outside agencies, and the goal of maintaining safe and timely emergency response for the community.

What’s Being Requested

  • 12 Additional Firefighters/Paramedics
    • Six to Station 9
    • Six to Station 7
    • To meet NFPA 1710 standards
    • These positions will ensure full staffing at stations 7 and 9

This item remains under consideration by the Common Council. It was discussed at the Special Committee of the Whole meeting on Thursday, August 14, 2025, with no action taken. The next Committee of the Whole meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, August 26, 2025.
