Evacuating Your Home

Evacuation Procedure

If you need to evacuate your home, follow these steps to ensure your safety:

  • Listen to a battery-powered radio for the location of emergency shelters; follow instructions provided by local officials
  • Lock your house
  • Take your disaster supplies kit
  • Use travel routes specified by local officials
  • Wear protective clothing and sturdy shoes

If you are sure you have time:

  • Let others know when you left and where you are going
  • Make arrangements for pets, as animals may not be allowed in public shelters
