Permits can be issued to licensed electrical, plumbing, HVAC and building contractors.
Home Owner Privilege
Permits may be issued to a property owner if the following conditions apply:
- Building must be their own single family dwelling (not condominium) that is owned and occupied by them as a permanent residence
- Apply for and secure the necessary permit(s)
- Pay the required fees
- Do the work themselves
- Follow the provisions of the Building Code
- Schedule required inspections
- Receive approval of the Electrical and/or Plumbing Inspector
- Home owner's privilege does not apply to:
- New electrical service or service upgrades
- In-ground swimming pools, spas or hot tubs
- New construction prior to the issuance of an occupancy permit
- Remodeling over 1,500 square feet
- Electrical work outside the dwelling
