Council

Overview

The Common Council serves as the legislative body for the City of New Berlin and is composed of the Mayor and seven Aldermen, each representing one of the city’s seven aldermanic districts. Each district is made up of three wards, totaling 21 wards citywide. The Mayor is elected to a four-year term, while Aldermen serve staggered three-year terms. Together, the Common Council is responsible for adopting the City’s annual budget and enacting ordinances, resolutions, and policies that guide the governance and operations of the City.

While the City Clerk is not a member of the Common Council, the Clerk plays a vital role in supporting the legislative process and ensuring the effective and transparent operation of local government. 

Meetings

  • Regular meetings are held at 6:00 pm on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month
  • Meetings are held once per month in July, August, September, November & December
  • Meetings are held in the City Hall Council Chambers located at 3805 S. Casper Drive, New Berlin, WI 53151
