[ARCHIVED] Fire Chief Lloyd Bertram Leaves His Mark on the Community

Press Release - Fire Chief Bertram Retirement

Fire Chief Lloyd Bertram is set to retire from the City of New Berlin on July 2, 2020. The Chief has served in this position since October 2010, having previously served in Franklin WI for 21 years. His career began 35 years ago in Calumet, WI as a volunteer firefighter in 1985.

Chief Bertram has left his mark on the City of New Berlin and has significantly moved the department forward. Bertram brought the NBFD into the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) that had been established in the State of Wisconsin. Being a part of this network allows for assistance to communities when simultaneous calls are received and units are low. Neighboring communities can be dispatched to assist.

In addition, Fire Chief Bertram created a mutually beneficial agreement with Moorland Reserve/Froedtert for interfacility transports. He also transitioned many part-time firefighter/paramedics to full-time positions creating a more consistent and highly trained staff for our residents and businesses. The Chief has made organizational changes and updated equipment and facilities throughout his tenure here in New Berlin. Chief Bertram has steadfastly nurtured and taught the next generation of firefighters who now stand ready to serve.

“Chief Bertram should be proud of his accomplishments here in the City of New Berlin. He leaves behind a department fully capable of moving into the next decade and beyond. We are grateful for his dedication during the past 10 years and wish him all the best in the future” stated Mayor Dave Ament. “The City will be proclaiming July 2, 2020 Fire Chief Lloyd Bertram Day in his honor.”

Assistant Fire Chief Scott Gillard will be serving as Interim Fire Chief as the Police & Fire Commission proceeds with the recruitment process to replace Chief Bertram.
